As the BBC publishes an article explaining why music videos are becoming less entertaining to current generations with the meteoric rise of short-form content, here's 10 of my favourite, not-so-boring music videos that hit the spot, from the weird and wacky to the insightful.

Ruby Hemsley

  1. Don Broco - Birthday Party

First off, as you probably might be able to already tell, this music video is far from normal. And who else could it come from apart from Don Broco? Throughout their whole career they have been famous for their wacky, fever dream music videos and this one is perhaps the weirdest, as it even scared the band themselves! It features that era's mascot of TD (aka. Tiny Dino), the band themselves, and a whole array of beloved TV and film characters and public mascots. It sees them ruin their whole reuptations and make children terrifed of them somehow only within the space of 3mins and 26 seconds with their wild antics at this 'birthday party'.

Tiny Dino? Aged by about 20 years, 5 foot taller and is most likely going through stuff that I do not want to know. Pingu? That igloo is made out of a certain type of ice, but the more adult type. The Simpsons? Maggie's grown up...but looking at her I wish she hadn't. Wallace (from Wallace & Gromit)? Personal opinion: think he needs to stop with the Wensleydale because it doesn't seem to be doing him any favours. I think Paddington might need to stay away from the marmalade too. However, my personal favourite moment is Homer Simpson cooking Peppa Pig and Mr Krabs on a barbeque. Absolute cinema.

In the world seemingly dominated by AI, Don Broco prove that messed-up CGI nightmare fuel is the only way to go, and as someone perfectly put in the comment section: "Every time I think Don Broco can’t get any more weird, I get proven wrong every time."

  1. Nothing But Thieves - Baby Kool (Evelyn)

Once again, the thumbnail lends itself to showing that the music video stars another character that could be your next sleep paralysis demon. What fun!

  1. Bebe Rexha & Snoop Dogg - Satellite

Missed this episode of The Jetsons? Yeah, me too. I really don't remember the one where they get high either. Well, good thing for you, that doesn't exist, and instead it is the music video for Satellite by Bebe Rexha & Snoop Dogg.

Next up we take more an introspective path with these music videos with Cold, the 3rd single from Dead Poet Society's latest album Monarch, the song released on 6th

August 2026. In an interview with Knotfest, drummer Will Goodroad said this about the song "People today are constantly performing for one another, competing for a place in a social heriarchy. We slowly reshape ourselves, cutting away parts of who we are to gain acceptance and validation. Over time, we lose touch with our passions, forget why we do what we do, and stop recognising who we really are - or what we truly believe, if anything at all. Cold is about recognising that reality and choosing to indulge in it anyway." And he most certainly isn't wrong.

The music video focusses on a woman during her 'day to day' life, working in an office with an ironic motivational message next to her whilst clients cry, supposedly celebrating an achievement with family or colleagues with a present box sitting on the desk, and then buying something in a store, all the while keeping the same blank, detached look plastered on her face. There are clues throughout the start of this video

that something else isn't right: her hair coming out of the present, a body lying draped out of her car. But it isn't until in the store when a man with a gun enters that everything falls apart. The shot moves to her eyes looking at the man, and suddenly she's lying on the counter with blood spilling from her head. It really showcases how seperated we can become from society if even when our lives are in danger, we struggle to act and do the right thing.

In the second half of the video, she falls into a mental breakdown, the realisation of how numb she has become to the world around her hitting her all at once, tears streaming down her face and the shots of her screaming powerful and moving to anyone watching. It's something unfortunately that a lot of us can now relate to with the state of the world, and the prison we all seemed to be trapped inside in our minds. The static shots and the darkened palette of this video and all the others from this era truly reflect what state we are living in, and how negative this world has become.

  1. Electric Callboy - Elevator Operator

  1. Queens of The Stone Age - Where The Goth Girls At?
